2000-2001 Online & Publications Competition Other Information

What are the awards?
Four levels of recognition may be awarded in each category. These awards, in descending order, are:
DISTINGUISHED
EXCELLENCE
MERIT
ACHIEVEMENT
One Best of Show award is presented in each competition. Winners of the Distinguished award in each category qualify for automatic submission to STC's international competitions.

Ordering more awards

If, after learning the results of the competition, you wish to order additional awards to share with others involved in the project, you may do so by contacting the appropriate competition manager. The cost for each additional award is $60.00.

What criteria do judges follow?

A panel of judges selects winners in each of the categories listed. The judges have the right to recategorize or reject any entry.
  • Publications are rated on six factors: writing, editing, visual impact/page layout, usability, organization, and graphics (tables, figures, and illustrations). All categories are judged in the context of the purpose, content, and organization of the document.
  • Online entries are judged on organization, quality of writing, editing, layout, usability, use of hypermedia, integration, and achievement of purpose.
Judges may choose to make more than one award at a given level for a category or may choose to make no awards at that level.

How will winners be notified?

All entries are acknowledged. Whether you win an award or not, you will receive the local judges' evaluations of your entry. You are also encouraged to attend the annual awards reception, where winners will be formally recognized, and entries will be displayed.

Unless your entry was submitted to the international competition, you may pick up your entry at the awards reception. NO ENTRIES WILL BE RETURNED.

Winners in the international competitions will be notified before the Society's 48th Annual Conference to be held May 13-16, 2001 in Chicago, Illinois. There, all winning entries will be displayed, the Best of Show awards will be presented, and all winning entrants will be honored.

All participants whose entries progress to the international competition will need to supply an extra copy of their entry so that these entries may be displayed at the local awards reception.
