The position is also responsible for supervising a marketing administrator and technical writer positions, establishing and managing marketing budgets, and leading the company's web strategy. A related bachelor's degree and related experience are required. Experience directing web/e-commerce development activities either internally or through outside vendors is highly desirable.

Technical Writer - Temp to Perm

The Technical Writer is an independent, self-starter who will write and edit hardcopy material for consumer devices.

The position is temp to perm. An initial 2 month contract to be extended with possible full-time opportunities depending on success of pilot project. Weekly hours may vary from 20 to 60 hours.

The writer is only required to be on-site with the client 2/3 days a week and work from home all other times.  From home, Writer must have access to good Internet connections and have the following software at their disposal: Framemaker 6, Photoshop 6, Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Illustrator.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Develops, writes, and edits outlines, drafts, and final deliverables for review by the customer.
  • Researches information about the product by interviewing subject-matter experts and using the product.
  • Conducts internal and customer project and review meetings.
  • Ensures that all deliverables are reviewed by the designated QA person before the deliverables go to the client.
  • Performs quality checks on other writer's deliverables and ensures quality of his/her own work before handoff to customer or localization.

Required Qualifications:

  • College degree in related area.
  • 3+ years experience as a technical writer recommended.
  • Must have proven experience of writing concise, short and succinct material.
  • Proficiency with recommended computers and applications; FrameMaker, MS Word, Photoshop 6, Adobe Acrobat, and Illustrator.
  • Experience in developing at least 3 of the following types of documentation: user manuals, service manuals, online help, administrator/programmer manuals, web content, reference manuals, white papers, brochures, technical information sheets, technical reports, web site design, training materials.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous job experience in a high-technology industry highly desirable.
  • Understanding of hardware and software (drivers, installers, utilities), product development, and product integration.
  • Excellent skills in these areas recommended: customer service, interpersonal skills, communication (verbal, written, presentation), time management, problem solving and quality control.
