Position Summary: 

The Senior Technical Writer develops, writes and edits outlines, software/hardware documentation and online help for internal or external customers. The Senior Technical Writer provides creative ideas and innovations to Axiom Creative Consulting, Inc and the customers to gain a competitive advantage for both. This person works on complex and special assignments, has experience developing controlled English documentation for the localization process. The Senior Technical Writer is able to take on and complete any task or assignment with minimal supervision. He/she also demonstrates heightened maturity and judgment in approaching his/her assignments, situations and job.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Work effectively with customers and represents Axiom Creative Consulting, Inc. in a positive light. Exhibits an excellent customer service attitude at all times.
  • Works on large and complex technical writing assignment with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates advanced skills and understanding of technical communication, has knowledge in multiple areas of the technical industry, and grasps new technologies, and new tools.
  • Consults with customers regarding new tools, technologies, and strategies relating to development of deliverables.
  • Develops and writes outlines, drafts, and final deliverables for review by the customers.
  • Follows customer style sheet guidelines and industry style guides.
  • Researches information about the product by interviewing subject-matter-experts and using the product.
  • Aligns with the goals, strategies and objectives of the product and works to ensure those directive are met.
  • Is the "Information expert" on the product and provides recommendations and ideas to the customer on presentation, structure, and organization of the materials.
  • Delivers every deliverable according to schedule.
  • Attends and conducts and review meetings and gives presentations.
  • Is an authority on the Q&A process and requirements, performs quality checks on other writer's deliverables and ensures quality of his/her own work before handoff to customer or localization partner.
  • Manages hours according to the program or budget. Keeps manager updated on the status of project hours on a weekly basis.
  • Creates content schedule; writes status reports, manages hours, budgets, and scope for when requested.
  • Make recommendations in the areas of scope, schedule and budget.
  • Resolves issues effectively and successfully with personnel.
  • Proactively communicates with the internal development team to stay informed about what other members of the team are working on. Understands the interdependencies of how his/her deliverables affects the deliverables of another writer.
  • Works closely with the Graphic Designers when developing deliverables and incorporating graphics into files and give feedback on graphics.
  • Ensures his/her deliverable is written for localization and reviewed by localization partners at the designated time during development of the materials.
  • Follows the designated process for handing-off deliverables to customers or localization.
  • Participates in the post-mortem process and ensures improvements are incorporated into subsequent projects.
  • Follows the designated process for setting up directories and files, working on the network, and archiving files.
  • Shares best practices with the technical writing staff.
  • Attends department staff meetings and works on special assignment as requested.
  • Assist in interviewing candidates and makes hiring recommendations.
  • Keeps current with the technical communications industry and furthers self-development through attending appropriate classes and conferences; responsible for own training and development plan.

  • Strong ability for identifying and organizing information provided, expanding upon it as necessary to provide a complete, coherent document for the defined audience.

  • Experience with working with Styles and Standards as defined by industry guides (i.e., Strunk and White, Chicago Manual of Style, et. al.)

  • Areas of expertise strongly desired (i.e., flight operations, maintenance and engineering, station operations/inflight services, or business operations).
    Airline operations experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Proficiency in SGML, Adobe FrameMaker, Acrobat, Photoshop, MS Canvas and MS Office.
  • Must be able to work on both PC and/or Macintosh hardware platforms.
