Position Scope:

Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard technical publication techniques and procedures to assigned publications projects. Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard drafting and modeling techniques and procedures to assigned drafting projects. Makes minor adaptations and modifications to assignments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 Is responsible for conventional plans, investigations, or equipment with relatively few complex features for which there are precedents.

Is instructed on specific assignment objectives, complex features and possible solutions. Receives assistance on unusual problems and work is reviewed for application of sound judgment. Examples of possible specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

JOB OVERVIEW

The Web Designer shares responsibility for maintaining a large (3500+ page), complex web site providing scientific information to research and general users. Colorado State University seeks an assistant professor (tenure track) whose research and teaching interests focus on professional applications of information technology and/or computer-mediated communication.

Duties: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in information technology and computer-mediated communication, with a focus on applications and conceptual foundations in computer-mediated communication and at least one of the department's
concentrations in public relations; television news and video communication; news-editorial journalism; and specialized communication. The candidate also will develop or continue a relevant social-science-based scholarship program and assist in maintaining effective liaisons with media organizations.

Qualifications: Terminal degree in communication, journalism/mass communication or related field required with a focus on information technology or computer-mediated communication studies desired (with degree in hand by August 15, 2005). Professional communication experience required in a technology-related communication environment for public relations, news-editorial, broadcast/video communication, or technical/specialized communication. Professional experience should have emphasized the conceptualization, planning, and production of communications using technology to craft effective messages. Ideally, the candidate should have experience working with a wide range of hardware and software for Web page design and management, computer graphics, and computer-based animation. Research and evaluation of information technology and computer-mediated communication is desired. Previous college teaching experience preferred.

Salary: Competitive.

Program: The program is a highly respected unit in the College of Liberal Arts. The Department serves 500 undergraduate majors in an ACEJMC-accredited program, 250 pre-majors, and 60 graduate students. Faculty offer expertise in scientific, technical, health, and environmental communication, information technology, computer-mediated communication, and IT policy, in addition to other professional media areas. The Department has assumed a leadership role in CSUs campus-wide information technology initiative and is in the early stages of proposing a Ph.D. program with a communication and information technology emphasis.

The Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education has recognized the unique character of the masters program as a Western Regional Graduate Program.

Faculty members are highly active in research, publication, professional communication activities and public service. Over the last decade, faculty have generated more than $8 million in federal, state, and privately funded research and production project grants and contracts focusing on health, risk, science, environmental, and technical communication; Web and interface design; human computer interaction; hypertext; and online learning. Faculty members are active in diverse academic and professional communication organizations at the state, regional, national, and international levels.

With four dedicated computer labs and nine digital video production rooms, the department provides excellent computer, multimedia, and video production facilities. Undergraduate students also benefit from access to adjacent Student Media facilities, a strong internship program, and close ties to Denver's media community. The award-winning Rocky Mountain Collegian publishes a four-color, full-sheet paper with inserts five days a week. Students at Campus TV produce five shows a week for viewing on area cable. Student Media also includes a full-time 10,000-watt FM radio station, KCSU-FM.

The University: More than 25,000 students, including 3,000 graduate students, attend Colorado State University. Colorado State is a land-grant Carnegie Doctoral/Research-Extensive university and is recognized as one of the West's premier research institutions. Its undergraduate entrance requirements are well above the norm for state universities nationwide. The Department is housed in the College of Liberal Arts, the largest unit on campus in enrollment and faculty size.

The incumbent will lead and/or participate in writing and editing documents related to division projects.

General topics related to the projects include, but are not limited to: strategic and tactical telecommunications planning; systems engineering of wireless and information technology applications; research, analysis, and testing of new and emerging technologies; and standards development and validation.  The incumbent writes, edits, and reviews reports, papers, and other forms of documentation that presents information on theoretical research, applied research, and integrated problem-solving related to present and future wireless telecommunications and information technology architectures, networks, systems, and associated components.
