Instructional Designer
An established multimedia training company has an immediate need for an experienced Instructional Designer on a contract basis. Our project will begin in January 2007 and will consist of developing instructor-led and online course materials for a healthcare client.
This engagement will require 20-40 hours of time during the first week, with an ongoing, part-time commitment of fewer hours per week during the remaining 2 to 3 months of the project. Most of the work can be done from a home office location, with attendance at a few in-person meetings in the Denver area required.
Responsibilities
- The primary role of this position is to design and develop all training materials. These will include instructor-led materials such as leader’s guides, PowerPoint
presentations, and job aids. There may also be a need to develop some online training materials such as course scripts.
- In the initial stages of the project, assist in the scoping and development of design requirements, including curriculum design/strategy and learning objectives.
- Actively participate in the content-gathering, writing, and review phases of curriculum development.
- Interview client Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in order to gather and finalize course content.
- Attend information-gathering, internal team conferences, and client review meetings either in person or through teleconferences.
- Work closely with internal team members (senior instructional designer, project manager, graphic artists and programmers) to ensure that quality assurance standards are met during the course production process.
- Follow up and evaluate the effectiveness of developed training and incorporate revisions based on client feedback.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of instructor-led and/or online instructional design experience.
- Experience developing healthcare or clinical training preferred. Claims, call center or medical management experience is a plus.
- Highly-developed creative writing and oral communication skills.
- Solid understanding of adult learning theories and experience in applying these theories to a variety of projects.
- Superior problem-solving abilities.
- Self-starter capable of working independently as well as within a team.
- Good organizational skills with close attention to detail a must.
- Strong academic credentials (An undergraduate or graduate concentration in Instructional Design, Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Human Factors or English would be
ideal).

Our client is a Research and Development group in Boulder County. They have an immediate need for an additional contract technical writer for the next nine months. Candidates should have a BA in English or a BS in Computer Science with a concentration in technical writing/communication. Candidates should have at least three years experience developing technical documentation for application developer and system administrator audiences. Experience documenting applications using XML technology is a plus; familiarity with .NET is also preferred. The greatest portion of the job will be writing technical specifications, product marketing presentations and release notices. The templates for these documents have already been established and will not be altered or modified by the writer. The position requires the abilities to read source code, interview engineers, collect information and solve problems with minimal supervision.
