November Chapter Meeting 

Program: Questions Technical Writers Need to Ask

Cost:
STC Member Price: $20
Price for program and dinner for STC members (except students).
Nonmember Price: $25
Price for program and dinner for those without STC membership.
Student Price: $15
Reduced rate for program and dinner for students, both STC members and nonmembers (please provide your student ID at the meeting check-in desk).
Program Only Price: $10
This covers the cost of the program only and does not include a meal. A beverage is included.
An additional $5 will be assessed for attendees who want dinner, but who register late or show up at the door.  
Alternately, if you wish to pay at the door, you can send an email to reservations@stcrmc.org and indicate the number of individuals in your party, whether you are a member, non-member, or student, if you are attending the program only, or if you require a vegetarian meal.

Details: Dr. Elizabeth (Bette) Frick will give her presentation entitled "Questions Technical Writers Need to Ask."

A major factor in the professional success of technical communicators is asking questions--"the right questions. If you've ever suffered expensive consequences of unasked or poorly framed questions, you'll benefit from this lively and interactive session on learning to ask the right questions. Learn how to:

  • Generate perceptive questions
  • Listen and probe for more information
  • Develop a thorough and tactful questioning strategy to elicit the right information
  • Answer questions asked of you (friendly and hostile)
About the Speaker: Elizabeth Frick, the Text Doctor®, teaches writing in Denver Metro companies and in Twin Cities companies and organizations. Her interactive classes and practical workshops help everyone improve communication skills. She won the Excellence in Training award for 2002 from the Association of Professional Communications Consultants (APCC).

She is also a writer and an editor, most recently acting as Interim Managing Editor for an Ingenix database project. She has also produced two training broadcasts for the State of Minnesota. Other clients include Brooks Brothers, Medtronic, the American Society of Quality Press, Methodist Hospital (Hospice), and the Veterans Administration.

Dr. Frick holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Minnesota. She served as President of the Society for Technical Communication (STC), Twin Cities Chapter (2003-2004). Dr. Frick recently relocated to the Denver Metro area because she fell in love with her new grandson, Axel, now 19 months old.
