Many designers and developers use available
instructional technologies (such as audio or graphics) and
strategies (such as multiple choice items and rollovers) because
they have the tools to build them. But technologies and strategies
used indiscriminately tend to give instruction a cookie-cutter
feel and make it feel trivial or disconnected from reality.
Research shows that instructional technologies and strategies
have characteristics which can be exploited to improve learning
and other instructional outcomes. In this session, participants
will:
- Analyze the natural characteristics of common instructional
technologies and strategies
- Use this knowledge to choose technologies and strategies
for a variety of instructional scenarios
This session will be extremely interactive and will be done
as a facilitated group analysis rather than a one-way presentation.
