Details:

A complex web application doesn’t start with visual design. You need to gather a lot of information about the users and their tasks before you can accurately illustrate what you think the product might look like. Understanding who the users are, how they will use the product, and the business rules that should guide their behavior are critical. Join Laurie Lamar and Cathy Barnes for an enlightening overview of the User Experience Design (UXD) methodology developed and employed by Industrial Wisdom.

This high-level discussion will focus on the overall process of spec’ing the UX for complex web applications. Laurie and Cathy will present their methodology for:

  • Gathering business requirements and user requirements
  • Creating deliverables such as concept maps, posters of personas, use cases, flow maps, site maps, wireframes, prototypes, and usability studies

They will also discuss the factors that influence the methodology’s success – starting with you. Even if “User Experience” isn’t part of your job title, you’ll learn how to sell a UXD methodology to your management team.

If you’re a technical communicator who wants to be involved – or already are involved – in influencing UI design decisions, or are a UX designer or usability specialist who is curious about new methodologies, you won’t want to miss this program.

To help you get the most out of the presentation, Laurie and Cathy recommend you get familiar with (or brush up on) UX terminology. A good resource is www.usabilitybok.org/glossary.
