Kit Brown-Hoekstra Elected STC Fellow!

In December 2012, STC’s Board of Directors elected Katherine (Kit) Brown-Hoekstra a Fellow. Kit has been an STC member and volunteer for 24 years.

STC’s website says, “Becoming an STC Fellow is a lifelong journey of achievement, an honor bestowed by the Society upon Associate Fellows who have continued to make exemplary contributions to our organization and profession, who have made good on their promise to make a difference. STC members who have held the rank of Associate Fellow for at least three years are eligible to be considered for advancement to the rank of Fellow. Such Associate Fellows will have been members of the Society for at least 13 years, and been active in the technical communication profession for at least 18 years.” Other qualifications are detailed on the website.

Kit is a writer and consultant with a background in the life sciences and 23 years of experience in technical communication. She is the Principal of Comgenesis, LLC in Denver, which provides consulting services and training to clients on internationalizing and improving the usability of their documentation, developing a coherent documentation strategy and content model, as well as more traditional technical writing and editing services.

Kit has worked with technical experts worldwide to successfully develop information and training materials for global audiences, ranging from government agencies to technicians, physicians, and software end-users. She holds an MS in Technical Communication and a BS in Biology, both from Colorado State University.

In addition to creating web content, manuals, online help, and technical reports, Kit has designed internal software tools, designed and developed intranet web sites, designed and conducted several surveys, and developed usability tests.

Kit has held various positions in the STC, from nominating committee at both the chapter and international level, chapter president, and SIG manager to international publications competition chair and Global Strategies committee chair. She also speaks at many conferences around the world.

In early May, STC will honor Kit and the other newly elected Fellows and Associate Fellows at the 2013 STC Summit honors reception and banquet in Atlanta.

Please help us congratulate Kit on receiving this well-deserved and long overdue honor at the chapter’s May 16, 2013 annual business meeting.
