When I moved from Connecticut three years ago, STC RMC provided an instant, welcoming community for me to join. The educational benefits of chapter membership are compelling on their own, but for me community is the overwhelming benefit. The RMC mailing list was the best avenue for asking questions specific to my working in the Denver area. Responses were immediate and gracious. The President of STC RMC made sure I was introduced at meetings, and I quickly developed a local network. This group helped me find my footing as a Denver professional. And now that I have, I still use the mailing list, I read the blog, I belong to the chapter’s group on LinkedIn, I follow the chapter on twitter, and I attend chapter meetings. Especially as a lone writer, I continue to benefit from this group’s assistance, education, and camaraderie.
